The Killing Joke, one of my favorite Batman stories ever, stirred a bit of controversy because the story involves the Joker brutally, pointlessly shooting Commissioner Gordon's daughter in the spine. This is a no-holds-barred take on a truly insane criminal mind, masterfully written by British comics writer Alan Moore. The art by Brian Bolland is so appealing that his depiction of the Joker became a standard and was imitated by many artists to follow.

This book is awesome, but it's definitely not worth paying for the overpriced hardback. They just released a reprint of it last month (June 2010) that you can pick up at any good comic shop for $5.

This was a very unique story line. You really get an observers' point of view of the Joker and why he's so terrifying.
The ending joke was priceless. The artwork was spectacular. This was all about the Joker and as such was worth while reading.

BUY THIS GRAPHIC NOVEL RIGHT NOW! It's an epic read and I was left thinking about it for days. I've read it three times already, and each time have found something new. Not that I even need to, the story alone is freaking awesome. I'm not going to ruin anything, but if your even debating buying this novel, BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT. Did I get my point across?

I really love this story, and the work they did recoloring it is amazing, it looks gorgeous. It reads with that certain Alan Moore style and is one of the best stories I've read for the Jokers. It's definitely the best single issue story of the Joker. The only downside is: it's one 45 page comic bound in hardcover with some extra crap for $[...]. You can get the same story in DC Tales of Alan Moore without the redone artwork. I'd recommend going that route if you're interested in the other stories by him, if you truly want just this book I'd say go for it, you're likely to re-read it enough times to make the cost worth it.

Batman - The Killing Joke is one of the greatest Joker stories ever told by far not the singular one but one of the best. Written by Alan Moore the most imaginative and best comic book writer ever. This story is no holds barred take on a truly insane criminal mind masterfully written and artistically designed by Brian Bolland a formidable artist. This is a dark tale of madness and obsession with the Joker one of Batmans oldest and deadliest adversaries. Amongst other things this story stirred quite a bit of controversy bec ause the story involves the Joker brutally and pointlessly shooting the Commissioners daughter in the spine. Although this may seem shocking this does lead her to becoming a far more significant character in her new role as Oracle for Batman. The Joker is bent on dragging his nemesis into the insanity and hell that a series of bad events cast his own agonized soul into. The story written by Alan Moore is so strong and powerful that it needs to be told. The Killing Joke tells the origin of the Joker at least one of the origins. His origin is the underpinning for the psychological drama to unfold, true to his psychosis the Joker doesn't want to accept responsibility far from it he is bent on proving that any man put under duress can be insane. This story and it,s elements within continue, in which it's not a story about the Joker as per usual but instead is a story on the examination of human nature, within which is on the Commissioner Gordon wheather he can be turned into a raving luntaic or not by the clown prince of crime himself the joker!?The Killing Joke is a masterfully written story within the realm of psychological and sociological underbelly. Each scene in the story is brimming with a perfect transition of writting between the present and past Bolland's art is unique in it,s unmatched appearance of work. Moore in is extraordinary manner of writing is trying to potray the clown's smile the sad story of a mass murderer a mad man brimming with insanity he is also trapped in a cycle he is also vulnerable and is also shown as a pathetic figure . If you're a Joker fan this story is not to be missed it is the epitamy of what good story writing is about . This is a tale of the man who became the Joker , it has had a lasting impact on the DC Universe it has changed and redirected the characters and stories of the universe itself. The Joker is portrayed in his most cunning, calculating and mad foolish self!
