5 out of 5 stars A perfect place to start   December 31, 2009

When I wanted to get into judge dredd I went to the internet and the major opinion seemed to be go with volume 4 or 5 the begining stuff is kinda boring I think this is a completely untrue analysis I have no former knowledge of Dredd other than the film and I loved this book granted sometimes dredd seems a bit cheesy but thats one of the only downsides besides inconsistant art which isnt a big deal theres a few issues with the book yes but these shine even when stacked with more recent books Dredd does everything from fight a robot king kong to a modern day frankenstein and with the story length being on average 3-5 pages its easy to pick up and read a few whenever

I dont know how good the other ones get but this is a great starting point

5 out of 5 stars Pretty Awesome!   April 3, 2009

I really liked this book because it gives a fan a historical perspective of how the character evolved and how it all started. The stories are fun and the earliest ones are a little cheesy. I like the cheesiness of it though :)

4 out of 5 stars Dredd takes off   October 29, 2008

This is the second collection of Dredd's early adventures, printed in the same order as they were in 2000AD. By this time the writers and artists had finally started to get to grips with Dredd and his world. The writing is much improved as the creators started to realise that Dredd was shaping up to be much more than just another comic character. Some of it is still rough and ready, but much of it is great. If you're still in any doubt about where to start with your Dredd reading, maybe buy volume 3 (where Dredd really hits it's stride) and come back to this one later. But if you've got the cash get 'em both!

3 out of 5 stars Dredd's first adventures   October 29, 2008

This is a sequential collection of Dredd's first adventures in 2000AD, and as such it's pretty rough and ready as the writers and artists find their feet - for instance the city isn't even known as Mega City 1 (it's actually sometimes referred to as Old New York), and the city still has a police force working alongside the judges. While there are some good stories here, if you're looking to see what all the fuss about Dredd is about then this might not be the best place to start. Reading this would be a bit like reading the first published Superman/Batman stories - interesting, but not likely to wow you.
